Учреждение, созданное в 1987 г. для расследования случаев серьезного или неоднократного мошенничества на территории Англии, Уэльса и Северной Ирландии и судебного преследования виновных. Директора Бюро назначает и контролирует Генеральный атторней (приблизительно соответствует Генеральному прокурору - прим. пер.). Случаи серьезного или неоднократного мошенничества передаются непосредственно в Суд короны (уголовное отделение Высокого суда правосудия в Великобритании - прим. пер.) без предварительного рассмотрения дела в суде низшей инстанции. Для прояснения обстоятельств дела и урегулирования вопросов права Суд короны имеет право провести предварительные слушания.
